Congratulations to AZ’s Robbie Findley! … What Do YOU Think About Bradley’s Final 23?

According to the prevailing wisdom in the U.S. soccer media-sphere, one of the biggest surprises in the unveiling of the final 23-man squad that will represent the United States in the 2010 World Cup was Coach Bob Bradley’s decision to drop experienced and proven striker Brian Ching (45 caps/11 goals) from the team in favor of Arizona’s own Robbie Findley, a forward at Real Salt Lake of MLS and product of the Sereno Soccer Club of Phoenix. We’re not sure why everyone is saying that Findley’s selection to the team represented the knockout blow for Brian Ching when Robbie has more recent USMNT playing experience (5 caps/0 goals) than fellow forwards Edson Buddle (2 caps/0 goals) or Herculez Gomez (3 caps/1 goal). And surely DeMarcus Beasley’s inclusion on the U.S. team, in light of his recent USMNT and club form (or lack thereof?), was more of a surprise than the selection of Robbie Findley! After Charlie Davies’ horrible car accident last October, Findley was given the opportunity to show his stuff up top as Bradley looked for someone with speed to replace Davies and stretch opposing defenses. In any event, critics of Bradley’s choice of Findley are speaking with somewhat softer voices after his insertion into the second half of Saturday’s USA-TURKEY Send-off Match at Lincoln Financial Field helped turn around what had been a worrisome “turkey” of a performance by the U.S. during the first half of the match. Great job Robbie and best of luck in South Africa!

We are interested in your thoughts about the 23 men who are in South Africa to represent the USA. What player selections are “hits” or “misses” for you? Who do you think should have been on this team, and isn’t? Who do you believe should have been left off? Discuss.
