USA v Ghana

Thank you to everyone who turned out to help us support the USA in their match against Ghana in the Round of 16. We enjoyed two very successful viewing parties at McDuffy’s in Chandler and at 16th St. Bar & Grill in Phoenix. Very lively crowds packed both venues, which unfortunately saw USA fall to Ghana 2-1 in overtime, which ended our run in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Below are some photos from both events!

Official USA v Ghana Viewing Parties!

Clint Dempsey Scores Against Ghana in 2006 Join us Saturday morning at 16th Street Bar & Grill in Phoenix and at McDuffy’s Grille in Chandler to cheer on USA as they take on Ghana in the Round of 16!

Many of you may remember our last encounter with the Black Stars at the last World Cup. Despite Clint Dempsey’s big goal (left) we were sent home from the group stages in a painful 2-1 loss. On Saturday we face them again in the first of the knockout rounds and absolutely must win to advance into the quarterfinals.

Although 9 players in the current squad were also on the pitch back in 2006, they’re missing their key midfielder, Chelsea’s Michael Essien. However, it’s likely they will be the last remaining African nation come Saturday so they will have a lot to play for.

Us Yanks are ready for the fight though, and we’re going into the match with a lot of confidence and momentum from our late win against Algeria. So join us on Saturday morning to cheer on our national team in their crucial rematch which will determine whether we’re in the quarterfinals, or on a plane, come July 2nd!

USA vs Slovenia Viewing Party @ Buffalo Wings & Rings

az_world_cup_viewing_party_usa

Thank you to everyone who showed up to Buffalo Wings & Rings in Chandler bright ‘n early Friday morning! It was an energetic crowd and a memorable match to say the least. Many of us from MLS Phoenix Rising and The Arizona Replublic were on hand to watch the USA earn a 2-2 draw with Slovenia, which could have been a big 3 point win for the U.S. weren’t it for a terribly bad decision by referee Koman Coulibaly of Mali which disallowed a last minute goal by Maurice Edu. The draw however, along with a goaless draw between England and Algeria, does position USA to advance into the knockout rounds with a win aginst Algeria on Wednesday. We will be hosting another official viewing party for Wednesday’s match at Upper Deck in Scottsdale and McDuffy’s in Chandler. McDuffy’s in Peoria will also be hosting an unofficial viewing party for members in the west valley.

Announce Your Own Viewing Parties Using Bigsoccer’s World Cup Party Meetups Site

// June 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // MLSPR, Where to watch the World Cup

FIFA World Cup 2010With 32 nations playing in 64 matches over 31 days the 2010 World Cup presents a great opportunity for getting together with other area soccer fans to watch some incredible matches.  Because MLSPR can’t arrange “official” viewing parties for all of the matches in which members have an interest or in all the far flung areas of the Valley, we encourage members to put together their own viewing parties at their favorite soccer-friendly viewing spots and to invite other members to join you.  BigSoccer.com has provided an easy-to-use way to set up a viewing party and publicize it to area soccer fans using the Meetups Everywhere platform.  You can access Bigsoccer’s Meetups Tool on our home page and we encourage members to check the site frequently for the latest on World Cup viewing in the area.

Where to Watch the World Cup

In the days remaining before the start of the 2010 World Cup we will feature profiles of soccer-friendly establishments in and around Phoenix so local soccer fans can plan their viewing party schedules. As most of you already know, nothing comes close to the experience of World Cup soccer shared with a group of fellow futbol fanaticos. We sent a standard set of questions to the soccer-friendly bars and restaurants that we know will be showing at least some of the World Cup matches. Please let us know if there is a bar or restaurant that you would like to see included in these profiles.
